‘Bourne 2 Perform’ was founded in 2006 by the highly experienced speech and drama teacher, Kim Bourne. After learning her craft at the ‘NW5 Theatre School’ in the late 1980s Kim married and dedicated her time to bringing up her two children. Kim wanted to develop her passion for speech and drama and knew that she could do this through teaching. Helping to inspire young people to love and enjoy this discipline, to benefit from the confidence she gained through her years of being involved in theatre became her driving force. Before offering LAMDA lessons Kim furthered her wealth of knowledge by completing the LAMDA Certificate in Speech and Drama, Performance studies (PCert.LAM) followed by the LAMDA Diploma in Communication Speech and Drama Education (LSDE) under the expert eye of Jacqueline Stoker (Director of Speech and Drama for Sylvia Young Theatre School). Taking over the reins from the lovely Eileen Chidwick, a very much respected elocution teacher of over fifty years, Kim continued to prepare the children of Thanet for LAMDA examinations and Festival entry. Kim has consistently achieved the high standards and results that Eileen had established so finely and remains loyal to her traditional elocution style teaching techniques.
Kim has always been attracted to the art of ‘Simplistic Theatre’. “Train the child to stand alone and then add the layers of costume, props, music and scenery. With confidence take each layer away and the performance will be just as mesmerising.”Once the core of the spoken word has been established, other elements can be explored.
Since 2006, Kim has successfully entered hundreds of children for LAMDA exams and Speech and drama festivals, directed and produced over forty productions, from end of year primary school shows to performances by her established youth theatre players.
Results have been outstanding, not just in academic terms but also in the development and confidence of each child.
